Finding Gems
Hold [L1] + [L2] + [R1] + [R2]
and Sparx will point you in the direction of the nearest Gem.
View programmer names
Use this trick to can see the name of one of the programmers.
Enter the big underwater castle in Summer Forest -- You have to
have the ability to swim. Go through the first two doors. Continue
until you get to the next set of doors up the stairs. Above the
button is a fancy pattern. Look at it carefully to see the name
Brian. You may be able to see other names by looking carefully
at other etched pattern on the walls.
Extra lives
An extra life is obtained for every ten butterflies
Spyro eats.
Go to the Autumn Planis homeworld. If you are standing behind
the rectangular pool, look to the left of the pool to see three
lambs and to the right to see three frogs. If you kill them both
(six out of ten butterflies), then jump up behind the pool along
the wall, all six will regenerate. This will give you an easy
opportunity to get the rest of the butterflies for an extra life.
Go to the circular area in Aquaria Towers, where you ride the
Manta Ray. Follow the edge of the room and ram the sheep that
appear. The sheep will regenerate with each "lap" around
the room. An extra life is earned for every ten butterflies that
are eaten.
Save a life
If you fall off the side of a cliff press [Start]
and select the "Exit Level" option. Re-enter the level
to resume from the beginning, but will all lives intact.
Save money at Glimmer
In the first level, enable the "Abilities"
code, then climb up the ladder and get the Orb. Fly over the bridge
and you will not have to pay Money Bags.
Start a new game and enable the "Abilities" code. Next,
kill ten enemies before talking to Moneybags. After killing all
ten of them, climb up the ladder. Do not pay Moneybags to let
down the bridge. The flying power-up should be active. Go through
it and fly across the unopened bridge saving the 100 gems that
would have been paid to Moneybags.
Hanging gem in Glimmer
In Glimmer, go to where the portal is located. Go left
and go forward. There will be a power-up. Go through it and go
to the top. You will not reach it by flying. You need to hover.
It will take a few attempts. Go forward a bit and you will see
inside the cave. This is the place where the ladder was located.
If you miss the hanging gem, go back to the Gemcutter.
Charge, jump and glide
Much like the Tomb Raider games, you can mock
Lara's run, jump, and grab move with a Spyro twist. On a ledge,
you can charge, jump, and glide and almost never have to hover.
When you charge off the cliff and jump off the very edge, you
get a little boost into the air, thus allowing you to glide farther
without hovering.
Skill points
After defeating Ripto, a "Skill Points" section
will appear in the guidebook. If you complete certain tasks in
the game, you will be awarded a skill point. There are a total
of 16 skill points in the entire game. After accomplishing one
of these tasks, a sound will play and a bonus life will be awarded.

the game as well as enemies that were made but were not in the
final version.
10,000 gems
Money Bags gives you all your gems that you paid him
back after beating Ripto, thus giving you 10,000 gems if you collected
all of them.
Extra health and lives
To make Sparx the dragon fly healthy, ram or flame
the small creatures in each level (the ones that cannot hurt you).
A butterfly will appear, which Sparx will eat, and cause him to
change color. When Sparx is gold, you can be hit by an enemy three
times before you dying. Even when Sparx is gold, keep flaming
or ramming the small creatures. Eventually a shiny, blue butterfly
will appear. When Sparx eats this, he will not only turn gold,
but you will gain an extra life.
Permanent Super Fireball
You get to go to "Dragon Shores" after defeating
Ripto. All 10,000 gems and 64 orbs are required to enter the door
at that location. A permanent Super Fireball power-up is inside.
After completing the game and receiving 100%, pick up the Permanent
Fire Ball ability, finish "Dragon Shores" and exit the
game. Then, without turning off the PlayStation, overwrite the
character that was just used to complete the game. Restart the
game and it should allow you to keep the Fire Ball ability from
the very beginning.
Summer Forest Idol Springs portal
As you first enter the world, swim in the pond. At
the far side is a tunnel to the first of three puzzles. To complete
the first puzzle, jump on the squares to turn the blocks yellow.
Jump on the four corners in any order. Then, swim out to the idol
in the center of the pond. Blow fire at the fish as they leap
out of the water. Only blow at the blue and orange fish. The red
ones will deduct fish. At the last puzzle, jump on the blocks
in this order: blue triangle, gray triangle, yellow star, orange
octagon, and green star.
Summer Forest Idol Springs puzzle
The answers to the three puzzles in Idol Springs are
as follows. To get to the three puzzles, first collect 500 gems.
Then, talk to Money Bags in Summer Forest and ask him to teach
you how to swim underwater. After this, when you first enter Idol
Springs go to your right and dive into the water. Find a cave
and swim inside. Go up and jump out of the water. Go to the guy
and talk to him.
Puzzle 1: Step on all of the middle and corner blocks.
Puzzle 2: Feed the idol Orange fish only.
Puzzle 3: Blue Circle, White Moon, Orange Moon, Orange Diamond,
Green Star.
Fracture Hills Orbs
The first Orb is obtained by letting the little faun out of the
locked room. You need to supercharge all the way through the caves.
When you reach to the last one, jump left and follow that around
to hit the door. This will free the faun for an the Orb.
The second Orb is located where the earth shapers are. Follow
the alchemist and flame them so that he can get back to Hunter.
For the third Orb, once you have the headbash, Hunter will go
around and shoot arrows at the earth shapers. You need to run
up and headbash them while they are down.
To get the third Orb easily, where Hunter shoots down the Earth
Shapers and you have to smash them with a Headbash, have the permanent
Fire Blast. When Hunter is running around, and before he shoots
the arrow, blast the Earth Shapers with your fireball. Do this
with every Earth Shaper, and in the end Hunter will thank you
and give you the Orb.
Hurricos Orbs
Find the two thieves that throw the lightning stones to each other
with the other person in the middle. Replace the lightning stones
and flame the thieves that come and steal them. Then, replace
the rest of the lightning stones.
Use the Supercharge power-up to break all the large windmills
and turn on the switches. Then, break the windmill with a staircase
and talk to the man. Glide on the buildings until you reach the
other man. He will give you an Orb.
After the man gives you an orb, jump the next set of jumps with
the hover maneuver onto the buildings until you reach a high platform
near the beginning of the level. Go in the room and shut the power
off. You will get the last Orb.
Speedway Orbs
To earn the Orb in each of the four speedways you must
first find the hidden task to perform. The game cannot be completed
100% without the Orbs.
Ocean Speedway
There is a large group of spectators, ahead and to the left
as you begin the level . Fly to them and talk to the fish-like
lady to acquire the task. Complete the task to receive an Orb.
Metro Speedway
Fly toward the large group of buildings. There is a waterfall
in the center of them. Fly behind the waterfall to find a person
that will reveal the task for the Orb.
Icy Speedway
Fly around the main island until you locate a igloo. Headbash
the igloo and Hunter will give you another task.
If you have not learned the Headbash maneuver from World 3 (since
this Speedway is on World 2), you can simply land and run into
the igloo. The Speedway's automatically supercharges you when
on the ground, giving you the power to break it.
Canyon Speedway
Follow the path of goats until reaching the area with the
circling vultures. Fly high above to the canyon rim and look for
Hunter in a little nook.
Summer Forest Orbs
Find Hunter near the large pond and he will reveal a series of
jumps to perform.
Dive down a pool of water to your left where you started the level.
Climb the stairs at the end to find the Orb.
Once you have learned to climb, go to the large orange circle
room. Climb the ladder to find the Orb.
There is a door then some stairs in the room where Moneybags lowers
a wall. At the top should be a window and a closed door to the
right. Glide out the window and move to the left into another
window to find the Orb.
Just as you exit or enter the Glimmer level, there is a stream.
Follow that stream to the right to reach an area to swim. Swim
all the way through it. At the end, you will find yourself on
a very high platform. With that, you should find an Orb bouncing
around.
Autumn Plains Orbs
Before the stairs leading to the Boss Are some cracks in the wall
which you can ram through. Use the whirlwind, and then the next
one, to reach the high tower. From here, look ahead and you will
see a tall platform in the distance, outside and to the left of
the outer wall of the main yard. Glide to it and get the Orb.
Another description to get this Orb is as follows: climb up all
the ladders next to Moneybags. Turn left at the portal to Scorch.
Go down the hallway until you find a cracked wall on your left.
Break the wall by charging into it. Go up the whirlwind. At the
top of it, you will find a few gems. Then, go up the other whirlwind.
Glide from the platform to the long green platform. There should
be an Orb at that location.
From the tall platform (above), glide the outer wall and make
your way to the left. At the end you should see another cracked
wall. The Orb is inside.
Use the following steps to get up to Juliet in Zephyr. Find the
Professor. He will give you a seed. Do not use this on the first
one right there, instead go down the stairs to find a Cowlet (spotted
elephant object). Plant it there, then go on the platform to get
the next seed. Go back to the Professor with the seed, and plant
it in the first one. Then go back to where you planted the other
seed, fire it, and then plant it next to the newly grown plant.
Climb the first, then jump to the second, then glide to the small
platform to your left. Get the seed, and plant it in the next
seed object. Climb up again and get the next seed. Fall down and
plant it. Go back up again and kill the two enemies. Get the seed,
fall down, and plant it. Climb up and go onto the new plant. Turn
to your right and you will see a platform will gems on it. Glide
over (you may have to hover at the last moment), collect the gems,
then glide over to the next platform. Talk to the Professor and
get an Orb and two seeds. Do not use the seed on the seed planting
object. Instead, jump onto it, then press [Triangle] to aim
and press [Circle] to fire. It should go onto the next platform.
If not, try again. Then, get the other seed and jump to where
the other seed is located. Aim over to the seed planting place
and fire. It will grow -- if it does not, grow, aim, and try again.
Then, grab your other seed and continue up the stairs, onto the
plant, then onto the next platform. Finally, plant the last seed,
climb it, and listen to Juliet to get the Orb.
Winter Tundra Orbs
Use the whirlwind in the courtyard to rise high in the air. From
here, go right and find the a waterfall going into a pool of water.
Dive in the water and follow the path to the last Orb. You should
come out near Canyon Speedway.
Use the whirlwind again to go to the left side of the courtyard.
Land on the wall. The Orb is just sitting there and is easy to
find.
After you learn how to headbash, look for the largest rock near
the entrance to the courtyard. Headbash the rock and to find the
Orb inside.
Final gems in Cloud Temples
To break open the gray box in Cloud Temples go to where
you got the orbs for ringing the bells and get the first two.
Once you go up the whirlwind to the next level where the third
bell is, freeze the two flaming enemies. Get up to the level where
the two flaming enemies are under the third bell. Instead of ringing
the bell, turn back around and face the window. Run and jump out
the window, then hug the wall to the right. You will land on the
platform which allows you to light the fireworks to break open
the gray box.
Exit Summer Forest
To exit Summer Forest (without entering Autumn Plains
or Winter Tundra), go onto the secret ledge (where an orb is found)
and glide to the left and straight through the green top of the
wall. You will also get an awesome view of Autumn Plains.
Lookout point in Summer Forest
When you complete Glimmer, you will see a stream in
front of you. Follow it to reach a pond . Dive under it and you
will see a tunnel. Follow it and you will find a lookout point.
Bungee jumpers in Metro Speedway
The bungee jumpers in Metro Speedway are difficult
to hit as they bounce up and down. Flame the ropes, and they will
fall to their deaths.
Get treasure in Mystic Marsh
In Mystic Marsh, there is a balloon near a jeep. To
get it, go through the spring power-up and at the highest point,
press [X]x2 to glide. Glide towards the balloon. You will
come up too low. When you are nearly there, press [Triangle]
to glide, then flame when you are in front the balloon. This will
cause the balloon to pop, allowing you to get the treasure.
Final gems in Fracture Hills
Use one of the following ways to break open the gray
box in the little room in Fracture Hills. Once you have rescued
all six satyrs, the temple will open up. Get the super charge
and go all the way through until you come out of the last cave
(with the ramp leading to it). For the easiest way to open the
box, go up to the high part of the ramp, jump left and land on
the top most level if possible. Jump left again into the room
with the box. A second, more difficult way to do this, is to jump
immediately to the left when you emerge from the cave, onto the
ledge on the roof of the temple. Follow this to the end and then
jump into the room getting the box. The third and most difficult
way to open the box, is to get the super charge and immediately
turn left and jump. Three more precisely timed jumps are required
to get into the room.
Get first Orb easily in Fracture
Hills
In Fracture Hills, instead of going all the way around
the course to get the first Orb, you can take a shortcut. Go backwards
and jump through the speedy power-up to the edge on the left.
Then, run around the building. When you get to the front keep
going, then turn around before you hit the tree. Next, run towards
the building jump and break the door. Note: This takes skill.
Ocean speedway track
Hold [X] to go through the rings and arches. Go
against the flow for the boats and cars and do them in the following
order: rings, arches, cars, boats.
Gems in Autumn Plains
On the level of "Scorch" in Autumn plains,
before you get to the big bridge, press the button to make the
bridge go down. Then, go down the stairs to the point at which
you are even with the green lava. Proceed under the bridge, walk
onto the platform, then jump in the whirlwind. You should find
eight or so dynamite vases. Flame one, and a chair reaction will
happen. After that, you will be up to your tail in gems.
Defeating Hunter in the Crystal Geyser
game
In the Orb challenge where the crystals pop out from
the cracks in the floor, an easier way to defeat Hunter is to
follow him around. When he stands still to grab the crystal, jump
and grab it before he does.
Cowlet locations in Zephyr
Just near the cage.
Walk along the wall behind Bo Peep. You will turn and find it.
Walk straight and past the second one and there is another walking
around.
Go where Romeo and Juliet are found (take a left at the third
Cow) and drop down. Run around to a green and brown object on
the floor (where you found the second seed). Fire it up the stairs,
turn left, and get to the large platform that is just before you
started. Get the cowlick to the edge, or as close as possible,
then ram it across. If it does not make it, do it again.
Go back where you found the fourth Cowlet. At the location where
you turned left previously to go up the stairs to get to the big
platform, turn right instead to see the Cowlet. Get it back the
same way as the fourth Cowlet. When you get all five back, he
will give you an Orb and ask you to find two others. They are
found at the following locations.
To the right of (and facing) the cage there is a cave object with
a ladder. Climb it, watch out for the two birds, and jump down.
There are two Cowlets at the very bottom. To get them up, use
the Super Fire Power by climbing the ladder and jumping onto the
platform. There is an arch with a flame object inside. Walk through
it and fire at the cowlicks (you can aim and fire with [Triangle]
and [Circle], or just go down there and fire at them). Also,
aim for the silver chest directly in front of you, and gather
up the gems. Then, go right from where the two Cowlets are located
to find a ladder. Climb it, gather those gems, fire the jar object,
then face where the silver chest was and glide (and maybe hover)
over to it to get that last gem. Then, just keep Super Firing
the Cowlets until they are in the pens to earn another Orb.
Turtle box locations in Sunny Beach
Note: You need Super Fire Power to break them all.
To the left of the person who tells you about the boxes is a small
cave. Get the Super Fire Power and stand on the switch. The door
will open. Press [Triangle] to aim, then press [Circle]
to fire at the box.
Just past the Super Fire Power object.
Go up the stairs in the same room as the first two boxes.
Continue on from the third box to a water pool. Dive down, swim
to the other side, and go up. Go right, then straight ahead. Then,
swim underwater again to find the box.
Face the person that tells you about the boxes. Turn around and
go straight. Then turn right, then left into the room. Go straight
and jump on the platform to find the box.
Same place as the fifth box. Go on the platform, then jump to
the taller platform. There is a box on the ledge.
From the entrance to the fifth and sixth boxes, turn left to find
another pool. Dive into the pool and swim to the other side to
find the box.
Finish Sunny Beach without baby turtles
Get to the second big turtle that you push on the circle
to open the gate. Do not push him. Instead, go past him and to
the ladder. Enable the "Abilities" code. Go up the ladder
and glide to the ledge across from you. From here, glide to the
ledge with the man and the Turtle Box. Go halfway across the bridge
and jump down on your left. Look to your right and you will see
that the baby turtles are still trapped behind the gate. You may
now finish the level without the baby turtles.
Finding the professor's pencil
Go to the professor to get the egg. Go to the tree
with the nest in it. Jump on the tree stump. Once Spyro is on
the tree stump, jump ([X]) and shoot the egg into the nest
([Circle]). Note: Because Spyro is lower than the tree, you
cannot aim for the egg to go into the nest. After the seed is
dropped by the bird, go up to it and Spyro will put it in his
mouth. Go to the empty flower pot near the cave. Standing over
top of it, aim the seed into the pot. After the flower grows,
the flower will spit a duckling out. Get the duckling and go to
the lake. Give the duckling to the mother. Make sure Spyro spits
the duckling out as close to the mother duck as possible. The
mother duck will spit out an onion. Take the onion to the pot
inside the cave (where Spyro had to chase one of the kangaroos).
Just as before, jump up and shoot the onion into the pot of soup.
A coin will come out of the pot. Get the coin and take it to the
fountain. . Put the coin into the fountain. The pencil will appear.
Return to the professor and spit it at him. The professor will
then give Spyro the Orb. Note: Use [Triangle] to look around.
Hint Moneybags' lessons

Fancy dives
Use the following tricks to dive into water in a better
looking way than usual.
Walk near a body of water. Jump towards it. While in the air,
tap [Square] once to do a regular dive from the air into
the water.
Walk towards a body of water. Tap [X]x2 to glide towards
the water. Then, tap [Square] to dive out of your glide into
the water.
Learn how to headbash before attempting this dive. First, glide
towards the body of water, then tap [Triangle] to hover.
During the hover, tap [Triangle] again to do a flip in mid-air
and dive head-first into the water.
While underwater, hold [Square] to charge. Press D-Pad
[Down] or "Left Analog-stick Back" to point yourself
up. Eventually, you will shoot into the air. While in the air
quickly press D-Pad [Up] or press "Left Analog-stick
Forward" to dive back down into the water.
Glitch: Free swimming ability
Note: This trick works better if you have less than
500 gems. Start a new game, complete Glimmer and go to Summer
Forest. Walk in front of Moneybags, but do not talk to him. Enable
the "All abilities" code, and then talk to him. He will
offer to teach you how to swim for 500 gems. Answer yes and since
you already know how to swim, he will teach you for free.
Glitch: Summer Forest
When you are in the Summer Forest, go to the left and
find the little pool. Look around to find a little hole. Enter
the hole and go up the steps to find an orb. Glide to the left
and when you are on the mountain, glide to the right. You will
be in the big lake and be able to use your fire breath without
swimming. This will cause a glitch -- you will not be able to
get out. You will have to quit the game.
In Summer Forest, go up to the secret ledge and glide to the left.
You should see the small tunnel to the secret ledge. Glide into
it and you can walk around without swimming and can watch the
fish swim in mid-air.
In Sunny Beach (Summer Forest), go through the level to the end.
Enable the "Big head mode" code. Do not push last tortoise
to the top platform/button. Sit on the platform/button and flame
the blue baby turtle. After several shots of fire, he should go
a little ways into the throne room. As soon as he does, jump off
the platform/button. You will hear him inside and occasionally
see half of his body apppear, and come back in again. This will
not affect the game. You can then finish the game by pushing the
tortoise to the top.
Glitch: Aquaria Towers
Find the hunter where you ride the manta ray. Then,
go to the wall that blocks you from going out of the level. Hold
"Up/Left" (or "Up/Right" from your point of view) and
hold [Square]. If done correctly, you should swim slowly
off the platform. When you get there, you can see through the
walls at enemies. You can see all the rooms. If you go to one
of the walls, you can go through it to enter any room.
Glitch: Breeze Harbor: Swim in air
In Breeze Harbor (Autumn Plains), you can swim in the
air. First, raise the level of the pool of water by lighting the
fire. Then, go up to the steps so that Spyro is still in the water
but very close to the edge of the top step. Dive into the water
and the game will believe that you are underwater when you are
in the air. Note: The game will crash when Spyro gets hurt.
Note: This trick requires the Permanent Powerflame. When you fill
up the pool, kill all of the firemen. You will not be able to
kill them during the glitch. To get the last two without jumping
to the ship, use Poweflame to shoot them. After the firemen are
dead, backtrack to the pool. Align yourself almost on the ledge
next to the pool exit. Press [Square] to Dive. Spyro should
be ramming the top of the ledge with Sparx in a bubble. To return
on the ground, go in the pool and surface. Do not get hit by an
attack or the game will freeze.
Glitch: Fracture Hills: Talk to people
from long distance
Get the permanent Super Fireball. In Fracture Hills,
shoot the statues that the fauns are trapped in from long distances.
Glitch: Metropolis: 6/5 sheep saucers
Note: The infinite Superflame (obtained in Dragon Shores
with all Orbs and Gems) is required for this trick. First, get
to the inventor droid at the end of the level. Do not talk to
her or use the Power Gate. Using your Superflame, shoot down two
of the saucers. Then, talk to the inventor droid. Just before
you talk to her, the number of saucers shot down will change from
2/3 to 3/3, without shooting down the last saucer. The inventor
droid will give you an orb for making it to the end of the level.
She will ask you to shoot down the three sheep saucers. Before
you can do anything, she will give you an orb for destroying the
three sheep saucers. Another wave of five saucers will appear.
Shoot them down. The inventor droid will give you yet another
Orb. After that, use the Power Gate to look for the last of the
first three saucers. Destroy it, and at the bottom right of the
screen will read "6/5" saucers.
Glitch: Mystic Marsh: Lost duckling
In Mystic Marsh (the level with the man who needs his
car fixed), go to the professor and tell him that you will trade.
When you get the little duckling, shoot him in the water close
to the mother duck. Immediately after you put the duckling in
the water, and before the mother spits out the onion, grab the
same duckling in Spyro's mouth. Then, get out of the water by
using the stairs. After you are out of the water, shoot the duckling
on the ground. He should float above the water, and after a short
period of time, will disappear and end up hovering above the person
at the start of the level. Note: You may do this as many times
as desired without exiting the stage if you grab the duckling
on the tree.
Glitch: Mystic Marsh: Swim in the air
In Mystic Marsh (Winter Tundra), go to the man who
needs his car pieces. He will tell you to get four thieves. One
of them dives in the water and goes through an underwater tunnel.
Leave him for last. After you have gotten rid of the others, go
to the last one and charge (hold [Square]) into him while
underwater. If done correctly, while the theif gives you an orb,
you should be swimming and there should be a bubble around Sparx.
You can now swim all around Mystic Marsh. You can go swimming
up, and after awhile look down to see the entire island. You can
keep going up and will not see it at all any more.
Glitch: Stuck seed
When you are in the place with Romeo and Juliet, go
to the top with the professor and spit a seed at the red wall
where you get the second seed. It will get stuck and an alarm
will go off.
Glitch: Strange screen color
Enable the "Flat mode" code. When in the
Autumn Plains castle, go to the Winter Tundra portal by Gulp's
Overlook. Go behind the portal and face it. Most of the time the
screen will turn azure and the stars from the portal will still
be there. Every once in a while, the Winter Tundra castle will
appear with a door and a window lighted. This works best if you
already have defeated Ripto in Winter Tundra and Avalar's flags
are hanging -- jump to see the flags if you can see the castle.
If the screen does not turn blue, turn other directions or go
slightly to the side.
Glitch: Normal reflection
Enable the "Big head mode" or "Flat
mode" codes. Go to ice and look down. Your reflection will
be normal.
